Of Power
A single solar panel can generate anywhere from 0.4 to 2.4 kWh of electricity per day, depending on its wattage and the amount of sunlight it receives. For example, a 100W panel might produce 0.4-0.6 kWh daily, while a 400W panel could generate 1.6-2.4 kWh. Over a year, one panel can generate an estimated 730 kWh.
Solar panels are well-suited for Malaysia primarily due to its abundant sunshine and government policies that support renewable energy. The tropical climate provides a strong and reliable source of solar energy throughout the year, which makes solar power a highly viable and cost-effective option.

In September 2025, Petronas and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) launched the Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (CEFORE), an integrated research facility located offshore near Kuala Terengganu.
This integrated research facility, one of the world's first, is testing the viability of various offshore renewables, including wind, floating solar, and wave technologies, alongside energy storage systems. The initiative is part of Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap, with the purpose of exploring the potential of such systems and fostering research and development.

Malaysia is aggressively pursuing green hydrogen production, positioning itself as a regional leader in the hydrogen economy. The strategy is outlined in the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), which was launched in support of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
The primary goal is to leverage Malaysia's abundant renewable resources, particularly hydropower and solar, to produce green hydrogen and use it to decarbonize heavy industries, power generation, and transportation, while also securing lucrative export markets in Asia.

Malaysia is rapidly developing its energy storage sector, particularly Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), to support its ambitious renewable energy goals.
Energy storage is considered a crucial technology for managing the intermittency of solar and wind power, ensuring grid stability, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
